In the past, UFC games have sold fairly well, but the game play left plenty to be desired.
Mixed martial arts and the combat in the UFC is one of the most difficult sporting experiences to re-create in video games for a variety of reasons, but the forthcoming UFC game UFC 2009: Undisputed looks to change all that when it is released this summer for the Playstation 3 and XBox 360 game systems. UFC 2009: Undisputed Release DateThe UFC 2009: Undisputed video game will be released on June 2, 2009 this year. While it has been in development for a long time, just the fact that the new UFC game finally has a new concrete release date has people in the MMA, UFC, and video game communitiies excited. Pre-orders for the game are already being taken on major Web sites such as amazon.com among others for the game. UFC 2009: Undisputed Trailers and Game playUFC 2009: Undisputed is going to attempt to succeed where previous UFC and MMA games have failed, and developer THQ has put a ton of effort into this game to make sure problems from the previous UFC games have been fixed. One of the main problems with the old UFC games was the ground game, especially the jiu-jitsu part of it. Jiu-jitsu is a very complex martial art and the most subtle moves using various limbs can lead to submissions and avoiding submissions. The new UFC 2009: Undisputed game will use an analog control system that will attempt to recreate the movement of limbs of jiu-jitsu. Another potential problem in developing a UFC or MMA game in general is the abundance of possible one-punch or one-kick knockouts in the sport. A player shouldn't be rewarded for landing one punch in a video game to that degree or usually isn't rewarded for doing such a thing but it's a part of the UFC and the sport in general so it will most likely be included. Perhaps something similar to the "flash knockout" system in EA Sport's popular Fight Night boxing franchise will be worked into the UFC Undisputed game engine for this aspect of the fights. One thing's for sure about UFC 2009: Undisputed, however, judging by the trailers involing BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin, this UFC game will be the best in a series that has been forgettable at best and it will also be the best mixed martial arts video game of all-time. The game's graphics, impressive roster of fighters and features, as well as the attention to detail that's been put in so far should make it one of the better fighting/sports game releases of the year.
